A very nice and scarce MONOGRAM pen in red hard rubber.
A MOORE, a BELMONT pen and a ......story!!!!!
In August 2008 I was atending the WASHINGTON DC SUPER SHOW organized by my friend BOB JOHNSON and I saw a little green MOORE pen. I thought to my myself the reason why a big pen manufacturer like MOORE Pen Co. made a small pen like that one , but, as a pen collector who buy any pen I like ( and I liked that one for the nice green colour and the ART DECO style ) , I paid a few dollars and I came back with that unusual small MOORE pen . That's the first part of this story ! A month ago, I saw on Ebay what seemed to be a similar pen but, in burgundy red ( the pic was very bad , maybe taken with a scanner ) and ...........imagine, " not a MOORE pen" but a BELMONT made for the REXALL STORES!!Of course it was also a MOORE made for those stores under the brand BELMONT!!! Again, we don't need to spend lots of money to have fun with our hobby , find nice pens and, keep improving our knowledge about these wonderful objects. Enjoy these two small but very interesting pens and try to imagine their way along all the years they survive until reaching my hands.

TWO IDENTICAL pens: one MOORE pen and a MONOGRAM pen sold on the REXALL STORES
Another proof that the MOORE's Pen Co. made pens for the REXALL stores under the brand The MONOGRAM pen ( they made also BELMONT pens as you will see ). The two pens are made on the same material and the trim is exactly the same with the only difference that one clip says MOORE and the other one says MONOGRAM! Its amazing!!!!

Two more MONOGRAM pens ,one in mottled red hard rubber and the other one in smooth black hard rubber , both with BAKELITE ends .

MONOGRAM pens from the REXALL STORES, in black hard rubber.
Rexall was created as a brand name for products sold by a cooperative of independent drug stores, United Drug Stores,formed in 1902 by Louis K. Liggett. After the First World War , the cooperative established a franchise whereby independently owned retail outlets adopted the REXALL trade name , and sold REXALL products,including fountain pens made by different manufacturers ( The Moore pen Co., Sanford and Bennett and Winter -Robbins & Drew, at least). The authors of the book - The chronicle of the fountain pen, stories within a story think that the first pens like those on the picture and even some early Rexall eyedroppers, were made by Mabie Todd & Co. but this is a conjecture. Pens made by those different manufacturers were named : MONOGRAM, BELMONT and DIXIE. It's possible anyway that other manufacturers also made REXALL pens and that other Rexall sub brands appear in the future! We are always trying to learn more and more! That´s the fun of the hobby!!!
